5 Stars for Girl of Lies (Rachel’s Peril #1) by Charles Sheehan-Miles

Girl of Lies, is NOT a story about Rachel Thompson. At one time, the first book in this series was titled Rachel’s Peril. With the new title of this book, I assumed it would still be about Rachel. But in fact, it is much, much, more.

For instance, it details the back story of the lives of the parents, Adelina and Richard Thompson. We learn their history, who they are, why they are, and what happened to make Adelina the horrible mother that she is. We learn about Richard Thompson, the seemingly closed off father of the six girls.

There are so many characters in this book with so many different POV’s, and many time changes, that it left me in awe of this author. How he was able to keep them all straight and still write a cohesive and exciting story is astounding.

This story takes place immediately following the birth of Ray and Carrie’s baby. So, while we are taken on a historical tour, we see the current outcomes if the decisions made by those involved. We also get to see how Ray’s absence has effected those closest to him.

The writing was brilliant, and entertaining as usual. I have so many highlighted sections and taken so many notes that I can’t talk about because I don’t want to reveal any spoilers. This was a GREAT book filled with background information on this family.

It is not a romance novel, it is a political suspense/thriller. It may not have been a romance, but I didn’t miss it. I already knew the main characters and I just felt like I was reading a continuation in there story. HOWEVER, this was big for me…I HATE cliffhangers, (because I am impatient), and the plot is not resolved at the end of this book. That did bother me. Not enough to not recommend it, because it was brilliant. I would also recommend reading the first three books about the Thompson sisters first. This book is a continuation.
