I LOVED THIS BOOK! It is at the top of my Favorite’s list for the year!
The writing was incredible!
“Was this guy for real? Suddenly, I felt like a bona fide man-eater. A Slutasaurus rex.”
This is about a girl who is afraid of commitment, who wants one-night stands, and a boy who wants a commitment and love before he will have sex, oh and he’s still a virgin.
I was sold from the first paragraph of the book,
“Love is like a loaded gun, slide your bullet into the cold metal chamber as a safeguard for the inevitable day that everything went to shit. At the first sign of trouble, you blew your opponent to pieces long before their finger found the trigger.”
That was how our heroine felt. We learned this about her right away. We learn she had a troubled past, and there were reasons for her behavior. We didn’t have to guess. I liked that.
At a party, Avery sees Bennett, (our Hero) AKA, “Hot Boy”. OH MY SPARKS! She wants him, another boy wants her, “Hot Boy” turns chivalrous, stands up for her, but doesn’t want her? She feels rejected and goes home.
The story unfolds beautifully with the two discovering each other and breaking down their trust issues as well as dealing with their family issues. We see the support of their friends, and siblings along the way.
I can’t say it enough, the writing in this book was lovely. The word choice, and use of poetry was powerful and not overdone. I loved it!!!
