2 Stars for Last Hit (Hitman #1) by Jessica Clare, Jen Frederick

Well, I’m struggling here because this book had quite a few fairly high reviews. But it didn’t work for me. I had some problems with it.

First, I really appreciated Daisy’s strength, and her courage to leave her home behind and seek out a new life on her own. I did not however, fall for how quickly she latched on to Nick. She was someone who was sheltered, and raised to not trust the world around her. This was not believable to me. I realize this is a work of fiction, but there has to be some degree of believability for it to work, and this did not work.

Second, I was lost with Nicks insta-attraction with Daisy. I flipped back several pages in the book and reread them to see if I missed something. Some background that would describe what he had been seeing. But there was nothing. It was as if that part had been edited out of the story. I was left confused, and wanting more.

Third, the first half of the book was slow. It was as if the plot was still being worked out. HOWEVER, about halfway through, it did pick up speed and things began to pull together.

I feel like I have read this before; different version, by different author, and better executed.
