Unabridged Audiobook

For high-school senior Celeste Watkins, every day is a brutal test of bravery. And Celeste is scared. Alienated because she's too smart, her speech too affected, her social skills too far outside the norm, she seems to have no choice but to retreat into isolation. But college could set her free, right? If she can make it through this grueling senior year, then maybe. If she can just find that one person to throw her a lifeline, then maybe, just maybe. Justin Milano, a college sophomore with his own set of quirks, could be that person to pull her from a world of solitude. To rescue her - that is, if she'll let him. Together, they may work. Together, they may save each other. And together they may also save another couple - two people Celeste knows are absolutely, positively flat-out in love. Whether you were charmed by Celeste in Flat-Out Love or are meeting her for the first time, this book is a joyous celebration of differences, about battling private wars that rage in our heads and in our hearts, and - very much so - this is a story about first love.

This should have been posted in April… Sorry.  As it does, life tends to get in the way and make it impossible to get everything done that we want/need to.  But in this case, it was in a good way.  I listened to the audio version of Flat-Out Celeste throughout the month of April in my car driving to and from running the errands needed to make my daughter’s high school graduation party a success.  But the best part was that she listened to it with me. How fitting.  She loved it.  She could totally relate to Celeste’s fears and excitement of going away to college and making new friends.   As well, she totally loved the audio version. She is not much of a reader as she doesn’t have a lot of extra time right now to find joy in it. But she is a fan of audio books.  This is her 3rd she has listened to this year.  And with her going 3.5 hours away to college next year, I know what I will be investing in.  We laughed together and even cried at some parts. There were times when we got to our destination that she would ask me to not turn off the car.  “Wait…”  “No.. not here.”

For me the experience was different.  Flat-Out Celeste was one of my Favorites of 2014! Listening to the audio added a new, exciting element to the story, but getting to experience the story again through the eyes of my daughter was fabulous, and getting to share another memory with my daughter was an added bonus!

Thank you, Jessica Park for this series, and this beautiful story!!!

In March, we sampled Truth by Aleatha Romig.  I had the opportunity to listen to that audio and it is fantastic!
