The Carolina Cold Fury hockey team is stacked with hotshots. But when a new player joins their ranks, he learns that even superstars can’t go it alone when it comes to love.

Lucas Fournier is only serious about one thing: hockey. The league’s fun-loving charmer, Luc is always up for a good prank or a great lay, and he has no intention of settling down. But being traded to the Carolina Cold Fury—and to play alongside his big brother, Max—is no joke. With another title in sight, the last thing Luc wants is to let his new teammates down. To succeed, Luc will need to keep his head in the game and the most . . . er, demanding member of his anatomy in check. But when temptation hits, Luc hits back harder.

Museum curator Stephanie Frazier has always put business before pleasure, which just about explains her nonexistent sex life. But when Stephanie meets Luc at a champagne-fueled gala, she finds herself flirting like crazy—and going home with the uninhibited athlete. For one night, she learns what passion is all about. She just never counted on the little surprise Luc leaves behind. And that’s when things really start to get . . . interesting.

Sawyer Bennett’s New York Times bestselling Carolina Cold Fury series can be read together or separately.

I was provided a review copy; this did not influence my opinion of the book.

3.5 Stars!

Best. Hookup. Ever.

Lucas Fornier is the brother of Max. He came from a loving, supportive family. Lucas enjoyed being the center of attention, his world was full of friends and women. However, due to a past relationship where his girlfriend saw only dollar signs when she looked at him, one night stands were better than relationships. He loves hockey and is always up for a great time.  He hadn’t been with the Cold Fury hockey team for long when he was invited to a benefit at a local museum. Counting down the minutes til he could leave the benefit, a redheaded beauty catches his attention. Not only is she gorgeous, she’s funny and fun to be around.  But she’s also every single guy’s dream. She doesn’t want a relationship, she just wants a great, one-night-stand!

Museum curator Stephanie Frazier has learned to navigate the world on her own.  She’s strong-willed, a hard worker and single. She came from parents who treated her as if she was a burden. Never having been shown she was worthy of love, she learned to not trust anyone could love her for simply being her. She learned to live her life solely dependent upon herself. She enjoyed men, of the one-night-stand variety.

For someone who craved to just be noticed for so long and never got it, sex filled a big void for me. And the best thing about casual sex was that I could walk away if I wanted, because I found that I really wasn’t prepared for something more than a brief fling. Anything else was too overwhelming.

A great pair right? Neither wants a long term commitment, both enjoy sex. What could go wrong?

What I really loved about this book was getting Lucas’s and Stephanie’s POVs. It made Lucas that much more endearing. Lucas really is a great guy! Getting Stephanie’s POV helped to understand her reactions a little more. She was not written as a likable character because she’s standoffish from the start. But that is her character, not a flaw in the writing.

I have enjoyed this series and Lucas was no exception. While it wasn’t a 5-star read, I did like it. It was just slow for me in parts and the internal dialogue dragged down the pacing.

Something Sawyer Bennett does really well is she makes you want to read the next book in the series. That Epilogue! OMG! I hope Van lives up to it!

About Sawyer Bennett

Since the release of her debut contemporary romance novel, Off Sides, in January 2013, Sawyer Bennett has released more than 30 books and has been featured on both the USA Today and New York Times bestseller lists on multiple occasions.

A reformed trial lawyer from North Carolina, Sawyer uses real life experience to create relatable, sexy stories that appeal to a wide array of readers. From new adult to erotic contemporary romance, Sawyer writes something for just about everyone.

Sawyer likes her Bloody Marys strong, her martinis dirty, and her heroes a combination of the two. When not bringing fictional romance to life, Sawyer is a chauffeur, stylist, chef, maid, and personal assistant to a very active toddler, as well as full-time servant to two adorably naughty dogs. She believes in the good of others, and that a bad day can be cured with a great work-out, cake, or a combination of the two.
