The most valuable lesson Emerson Moore ever learned was from her parents: Never get too attached to someone else. That’s why this hard-partying college student plays by her own code of bedroom conduct, refusing to stay with the same guy for too long. She gets all the pleasure of having a good time without the messiness of a relationship.. So what if frat house–hopping has earned her a certain reputation around campus? At least no one gets hurt this way—especially her.
When ridiculously gorgeous Jaxon Riley moves in next door, Emerson’s not sure how long her vow against emotional intimacy can last. Jaxon’s tattoo, muscles, and sexy voice make him tempting, but he also seems to really understand her…until his jealous ex-girlfriend and Emerson’s life-changing discovery about her parents get thrown into the mix. After everything she’s been through, can Emerson handle a real relationship? Or will breaking her rules just lead to a broken heart?
Review
The perfect book at the right time! I loved this book. This book touched my heart from the beginning:
“Be silly, be honest, and be kind,” he quoted in a raspy voice.
Sigh! I melted.
Emerson is trying to deal (or not) with a tragedy and has realized that the best way to do so is to not feel. Because feeling isn’t worth it.
“Everyone always thinks we should talk about our feelings as if that would make it better.”
So she has shut herself off from her real self. She builds up a wall to protect herself from getting close to others to protect herself from intimacy.
Then along comes Jaxon! She struggles to keep her “Rules”.
“He definitely had an athletic body with a playground of muscle right underneath his clothes.”
There was a wonderful relationship of friends and family in the book as well. The support between them rounded out the book and tied everything together. I loved how they took care of each other and joked with each other.
“All of you are disgusting, shut up, push play and keep your fluids to yourselves.” Jace complained.”
I can’t wait to read more about them!
I am so very glad I took a chance on this book. I cannot wait for more from this author.
