Carolina Cold Fury star Garrett Samuelson never wants to miss out on a single minute of fun. Whether he’s playing hockey, hanging out with friends, or walking the red carpet with a new date on his arm, he lives every day to the fullest. When he meets Olivia Case, he sees someone who’s exactly his type—confident, sexy, smart . . . his next fling. But the more he pursues her, the more Garrett shares a side of himself that other women don’t normally get to see.
Olivia has been keeping a secret. While Garrett lives for the next thrill, Olivia’s not sure she’ll live to see the next day. She’s undergoing treatment for some serious medical issues, and she doesn’t have time for a relationship with no guarantees—especially one with a hot-as-sin womanizer who won’t take no for an answer. But as she gets to know the real Garrett, Olivia can’t help falling for him . . . hard. To reveal the truth would mean risking everything—but you can’t score without taking the tough shots.
I was provided a review copy; this did not influence my opinion of the book.
I was excited to read this next installment in the Cold Fury Hockey series by Sawyer Bennett because it was about GARRETT. In Alex he was the “manhore” and was funny as heck! I couldn’t wait to dive in. But I should have known not to “judge a book by its cover”, not to base my opinion on “someone” solely on a person’s outward appearance, not to be shallow and take the “person” at face value. Because what you see with Garrett Samuelson, is certainly not what you get. There was so much more to him. He was just waiting for the right girl to show it, to share it and Olivia was that girl.
Olivia Case had just been given devastating, life changing news and she didn’t know how much longer she had to live. (This is not a spoiler, unless you don’t read blurbs, because that info is in there.) She is well aware of Garrett’s playboy ways and while she is reluctant to be his next conquest, she wants to make this life my bitch and wring every bit of juicy goodness from it before it’s possibly taken away from me.
“Where did Garrett Samuelson, the player who wants to put notches in his bedpost, go?” – Olivia
“He’s still there,” I tell her sincerely. “I’m just figuring out that maybe he wants something more than a notch with you.” – Garrett
Garrett was absolutely great with her. He supported her and loved her and helped her through her tough times. He was AWESOME! He was exactly what Olivia needed.
“No…you don’t get it,” he growls. “I’m. Not. Going. Anywhere. And I’m not just talking about right this minute.”
I have to mention her kick a$$ BFF, and boss, Stevie Magliano. He was great. Funny. An amazing friend. We all need a Stevie in our lives.
Also, the Acknowledgements in this book had me crying. It was beautiful!!!
The author took this book in a direction I didn’t expect. I expected to see more of Garrett’s playboy ways and humor. Instead we see a tender, caring and loving man. One who is protective and heartfelt. The story was great, but had I not known any history on Garrett, for me it would have worked better. I did have problems believing his total transformation happening so soon and with such full force….instant love/lust. I also, had some issues with Olivia’s OTT behavior once she found out Garrett’s concerns. I don’t know if that drama was necessary to the book. I think without it, the book would have been just fine. So, it was these things that kept this from being a 5 star read for me.
The next book will be Zack, and after reading what happened in this book, I am on edge with excitement and trepidation to read that one!!!
